When I first found out we were going on a trip to New York City to complete an escape room, I was ecstatic and couldn't wait for the time to come. I've never been to an escape room before, and knowing that I'm able to finally go complete one was going to give me a new experience to enjoy. My group consisted of Alberto, Zack A, Joe, Youssef, Jerry, and me. On the bus ride to New York City I sat next to Jerry and we were talking about whether we would be able to make it out of the room or not. I had high hopes for us to escape the room. During the ride we were all discussing whether which groups are gonna make it out or not. When we arrived in New York City, the first place we went to was a food court area named Urban Space. I got a loaded burrito to eat which consisted of eggs, hash brown, cheese, beef, and a whole lot of guacamole (the burrito was fire). After we all finished eating our food, we all walked to Starbucks which was like one minute away. I didn't get anything from Starbucks because that burrito really LOADED my stomach up. After our groups split up into teams that were either going in the morning or in the afternoon. My group was scheduled for an escape room for the afternoon so we had time to walk around New York City before we went to it. Our first destination was the Rockefeller Center where the big Christmas tree is located and the big ice rink. We watched other people ice skate and witnessed some people falling which made us all laugh. We then went to a Lego store which was right next to the ice rink. All the afternoon groups went inside and we all had fun looking around and making our own human legos that were out for public use. After fooling around in the Lego store, we went to a really expensive clothes store named Sacs. Me, Youssef, Alberto, Jerry, Marcus, and Zack looked around the men's department and we saw really expensive clothes that costed up to more than $1000! I tried on a dress shirt that was around $800 and it made feel special. Some worker came up to us when we were looking around and handed us some water bottles to drink and for some reason, the water tasted very good (maybe because of the placebo effect). We then all left Sacs and walked around New York City trying to find other stores we can go into. We went to Sunglasses hut and tried on all different types of sunglasses. After walking around the streets for a bit, our time to go the escape room has arrived. We had to meet our chaperones right in front of some steps at a church. It took us all around 15 minutes to reach the building the escape rooms were in. Our escape room was the Pirate-themed one. We took an elevator up to a lobby and waited for our instructors to come and tell us the rules and when we can finally start. After a few minutes they finally arrived, they told us the basics and then said that we are good to go. When my group and I first got into the escape room, we were all confused at first and looked around for any clues. Our instructor had to walk in at first to fix a puzzle that wasn't functioning. After looking around and finding out what to do at first, we all got into the groove and used ours heads to solve the puzzles that were in front of us. Our room was pretty cool because there were a lot of puzzles that add up to one big puzzle, which was to steer the ship and find out where we crash landed. Unfortunately we weren't able to finish our room, and we only had one more puzzle to finish. When we all got out we all talked about not making it out and how it was harder than expected. It took us around 15 minutes to get to the buses to go back to PVHS. On the way back, everybody was slumped and the bus was way more quiet than when we were on our way to NYC. At the end, its not about the destination but the journey, and I'm glad that I got to go on this amazing trip with all my friends. Thank you Ms. Menake for setting this trip up and it would have been an even better trip if you were on it!
